Short: Snapshots of EPA's Greek Workbench
Uploader: papanik@fly.imbb.forth.gr (Elias Papanikolaou)
Author: papanik@csd.uch.gr (Elias Papanikolaou)
Type: pix/wb
Well, here's two screen snapshots of my Workbench! It is AGA at only 32 colors.
The first snapshot gives an idea of what I keep and use in my beloved Amiga.
The second gives an idea of my working environment.
You can readily see it uses NewIcons, Toolmanager, KingCON and GoldED. Of
course there's more than meets the eye but I would like to point out a few:
The screen size is 933x652 but only 896x612 is visible at once. If the visible
part is top left then you can only see down to the lower line of the shell
window, and right to the first toolmanager dock only. To see the start button,
the two toolmanager docks at the bottom, and the VirusZ minimized window, or the
second vertical toolmanager dock, one has to move the mouse there and the
screen scrolls. You can see what I mean if you use multiview on its own screen
to see the pictures. (CLI example: multiview shot1.iff SCREEN)
I have Enforcer running all the time, and instantly reject and remove from my
system any software that has enforcer hits. I will offer my services as beta
tester to anyone who asks.
The little CPU load window to the right of the shell is the CPUusage program.
Tested all relevant programs in aminet and selected it because it is simple,
compact and does its job right. Don't know why but the Tinymeter's CPU monitor
interacted somehow with MUI programs (they didn't start at all, and no errors
reported!), if Tinymeter was started from WBStartup.
The window below the shell is the VoiceShell. I have constructed a sound
sampler, and together with VoiceShell it is a great fun AND help (in this
order :)
GREEK LOCALIZATION
==================
Maybe you noticed that my Workbench is localized. It is a Greek Workbench
(makes sense since I am Greek, doesn't it?) fully localized by me. It is NOT a
commercial product called "Greek Workbench" or something, which in my opinion
should not be commercial at all, not because it is not good, but because it is
nothing more than a simple translation of strings, and extending of fonts. Of
course it involves some effort and knowledge to do it, and those that did the
job have the right to ask money for it.
Well, I did the job too, maybe even better, started doing it for me, but it has
grown to something that may be of use to others too, so I will release the
product of months of personal work to the (admitedly small) public that is
interested (we aren't so many Amiga users out there, let alone Greek Amiga
users :-( ), for free. Coming soon, watch out for it!
MY SYSTEM
=========
A1200 with Blizzard-III (030/882/MMU at 50MHz),
OS3.0 ROM, 2 Mb chip + 8 Mb fast RAM, WD Conner 420 Mb HD
YAKUMO 15'' flat SVGA monitor, ZOOM v34 v42bis faxmodem
Really great non-commercial, enforcer-hit-free software I use and recommend
(the order is alphabetical):
===========================================================================
CPUusage CpuUsage10.lha util/wb
EasyReqPatch easyreqpatch10.lha util/boot
Enforcer enf37_62.lha dev/debug
Well, I'm not sure this is Enforcer-hit-free ;-)
GoldED ged314r.lha text/edit
HDSleep HDSleep.lha disk/misc
KingCON KingCON_1.3.lha util/shell
Can't imagine shell life without it!
MagicMenu MagicMenu_1.29.lha util/cdity
MCP MCP121.lha util/cdity
Saved me from a pile of little programs.
MUI mui36usr.lha util/libs
NewIcons NewIconsV3.lha util/wb
Great job guys!
StartMenu StartMenu2.lha util/wb
SnoopDos snoopdos30.lha util/moni
ToolManager ToolManager21b.lha, ToolManagerUpd.lha util/boot
Still the best and most complete launcher around!
